VOL. 001ISSUE 001AI × OLD SCHOOL

The notebook just got a cloud computer.

Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook and put executable intelligence inside a familiar old tool. The useful story is not the new name—it is what happens when an archive starts working back.

The headline

The notebook is one of the oldest creative tools we have. Capture the thought. Keep the reference. Return when the idea is ready.

On July 16, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. The name change is the quiet part. Under the cover, Google says it has started giving each notebook a secure cloud computer that can write and execute code for deeper analysis grounded in the sources a user provides.

That is a useful collision: the familiar project binder meets executable intelligence.

Why it matters

Gemini Notebook remains a standalone research product, but Google says it will connect more deeply with the Gemini app and, later, AI Mode in Search. Existing notebooks and shared links are not being abandoned; Google’s Workspace notice says automatic redirects will keep them working while the new name and logo roll out.

This is exactly how established businesses should approach emerging technology. Do not throw away the archive. Activate it.

A retailer has years of product notes, customer questions and campaign results. A design studio has briefs, references and revisions. A music company has charts, credits, contracts and release plans. The first move is not ‘make something with AI.’ It is organizing trusted material so a team can find patterns, test questions and produce useful work without losing the source.

The KILLER.COOL move

We would start with the material a team already trusts, give every source a clear owner and purpose, then build one focused workflow around a real business question. The result might be a sharper campaign brief, a searchable product brain, a faster reporting layer or a content system that can show its work.

Old knowledge is not old inventory. Connected properly, it becomes creative infrastructure.

Keep the notebook. Upgrade what it can do.

Compact playbook / 04 moves

Make the old knowledge useful.

  1. 01Audit the notes, briefs, research and results your team already trusts.
  2. 02Choose one repeated question that currently wastes time.
  3. 03Build a source-grounded workflow before adding another content generator.
  4. 04Turn the answer into a useful output—and keep the source attached.

Sources, not vibes.
